What is Galvanized Sheet?
Galvanized sheet is a steel sheet that has received a specific treatment consisting of hot galvanizing. Galvanized steel is standard steel that is coated in zinc to provide enhanced corrosion resistance. The galvanized protective coating protects the iron steel substrate from corrosion due to moisture, saturated environmental conditions, or ambient humidity. The galvanization process produces a sacrificial layer between the zinc protective layer and the steel, allowing for maximum protection from rust inducing elements.

Advantages of Galvanized Sheet
Economic Benefits
Galvanizing has a lower overall cost compared to other coatings. If you are looking to save money on construction projects, then you'll want to make sure you switch over to galvanized sheet as soon as possible. This can help to save a fortune when you are using this material in large quantities, ensuring that you keep on track with your budget for any project you are working on.
Durability
Coating life and performance are reliable and predictable. You'll find that one of the top benefits of galvanized sheet is that it's much more durable than regular steel. The coating helps to protect the material, reducing the chance of corrosion. This means you'll be much less likely to need to replace the material in the future, which is essential for most types of construction projects.
Less Maintenance
Galvanized sheet lasts far longer than other materials and needs less maintenance. This will save you time and resources in the long run, which can be better used elsewhere to maintain your projects and materials.
Long Life Expectancy
The life expectancy of galvanized coatings on most structural members is typically in excess of 50 years in most rural environments and 20 to 25 years or more with severe urban and coastal exposure. This means the applications it can be used for are numerous, which is why it's become such a popular material choice in recent years.
Toughest Coating
A galvanized coating has a unique metallurgical structure that gives outstanding resistance to mechanical damage in transport, erection, and service. When compared to other coating and material options, it's much tougher for a range of construction projects. In fact, it's one of the toughest coatings on the market today, allowing you to use it in difficult weather conditions and situations.
Complete Protection
Every part of a galvanized article is protected, even recesses, sharp corners, and inaccessible areas. No coating applied to a structure or fabrication after completion can provide the same protection. This means that once you install the galvanized sheet installation, you don't have to waste time adding further protection to the project.
Hygienic
Galvanized sheet has an easy to clean surface. If you are working on a project which will need to be cleaned regularly, you'll find this material is easy to clean and maintain. Especially during the challenging times we all find ourselves in, this is more important than ever. A hygienic material choice ensures that everyone remains healthy and safe when the material is cleaned on a regular basis.
Ease of Inspection
Galvanized coatings are assessed readily by eye, and simple non-destructive thickness testing methods can be used. You can easily see if the steel is still in good condition or whether it will need a replacement in the near future. These checks will take just minutes, as opposed to needing to dismantle any type of structure to find out what's going on with your material.
Wind And Solar Industries
Wind and Solar Industries are sectors where continuous workflow is needed. The use of galvanized sheets allows the industries to operate in a similar fashion. The sheets don’t require maintenance for decades as this sheet type is extremely durable.
Agriculture Industry
The agriculture industry is yet another sector where galvanized steel sheet is used highly. The field requires tools and materials to be highly resilient and resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Galvanized sheets have qualities that are ideal for fulfilling these needs.
Automotive Industry
It is quite a common thing to use galvanized steel sheets in the automotive industry, especially in the manufacturing of automobiles. Cars, buses, and so on have galvanized sheets used on the outer surfaces, which are more prone to corrosion and rust due to various factors.
Construction Industry
In the construction industry, galvanized steel sheet is used not just for the purpose of strength and longevity, but also for aesthetics. The shiny finish of the galvanized sheets adds that modern architectural zing to the structures erected by the construction industry.
Telecommunication Industry
The Telecommunication Industry uses a lot of tools, equipment, and devices, like telephone lines, boxes, towers, and so on, that are generally kept out in the open, and it is required for them to function for years without regular maintenance. Galvanized sheets allow for the continuous use of these resources.
Types of Galvanized Sheet
Hot dip galvanized steel plate
The steel sheet is immersed in the molten zinc bath, and a layer of zinc is adhered to its surface.
At present, the continuous galvanizing process is mainly used for production, that is, the rolled steel plate is continuously immersed in the zinc melting bath to make galvanized steel plate;
Alloyed galvanized steel sheet
This kind of steel plate is also made by hot-dip method, but it is heated to about 500 ℃ immediately after being grooved to form an alloy film of zinc and iron.
This galvanized sheet has good adhesion and weldability of coating;
Electro galvanized steel sheet
The galvanized steel sheet produced by electroplating has good processability.
However, the coating is thin and the corrosion resistance is not as good as that of hot-dip galvanized sheet;
Single side plated and double side difference galvanized steel sheet
Single side galvanized steel plate, that is, products galvanized only on one side.
It has better adaptability than double-sided galvanized sheet in welding, coating, rust prevention treatment and processing.
In order to overcome the disadvantage of one side not coated with zinc, there is also a galvanized sheet coated with a thin layer of zinc on the other side, that is, a double-sided difference galvanized sheet;
Alloy and composite galvanized steel sheet
It is a steel plate made of zinc and other metals, such as aluminum, lead and zinc, and even composite plating.
This kind of steel plate not only has excellent rust prevention performance, but also has good coating performance.
Best Practices for Galvanized Sheet Roofing Installation
Surface Preparation
Before installing galvanized sheets, it's crucial to ensure that the roof's surface is clean, smooth, and free from any debris or contaminants. This step promotes proper adhesion and maximizes the effectiveness of the galvanized coating.
Proper Fastening
Use appropriate fasteners, such as galvanized screws or nails, to secure the sheets to the roof. Improper fastening may lead to loosening or damage during storms or strong winds.
Avoiding Contact with Dissimilar Metals
Galvanized roofing should not come into direct contact with dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion. If unavoidable, insulate the metals from each other using compatible materials.
Ventilation and Insulation
Adequate ventilation and insulation play a crucial role in preventing condensation and maintaining the roof's integrity. Proper ventilation will also reduce the risk of corrosion caused by trapped moisture.
Regular Inspection and Maintenance
Periodically inspect the galvanized roofing for signs of damage or rust, and promptly address any issues to ensure its long-term performance.
In addition to the different commercial and industrial sectors, there are so many ingenious ways to use galvanized sheets in the kitchen. When galvanized sheets are used in the kitchen, they don’t just last for a very long time, but also add an aesthetic appeal to the kitchen. galvanized sheets are more affordable options in comparison to other materials. One of the most effective uses of galvanized sheets is on the walls and ceilings. It adds an impactful pattern, texture, and finish to the kitchen altogether. Yet another interesting way to use galvanized sheets in the kitchen is to use them as fixtures. The material can be used on countertops and bars. The doors and windows on the cabinets could also make use of galvanized steel. Generally, these areas in the kitchen are prone to water splashes or moisture in the air, which causes degradation in the long run. The use of steel as a protective layer on their surfaces ensures overall protection and longevity. The one thing that you should keep in mind is to not overdo it. You would want your kitchen to look like a kitchen and not a metal box.
Important Features Of Galvanized Sheet
Before being coated in hot molten zinc, or being painted, sprayed, or electroplated, steel sheets are first cleaned in a degreasing solution. After this, it is immersed and allowed to rest in a container of hot dilute sulphuric acid. The steel is then cleaned with an aqueous solution of zinc, ammonium, and chloride. All these steps ensure that the steel doesn’t get contaminated in the long run and that the coat of zinc properly sticks to it. Even after the galvanization process, the end product is thoroughly checked for gaps or inconsistencies. Galvanized sheet is resistant to rust and corrosion which makes it an ideal kind of steel sheet to be used in areas where there is a really high chance of oxidation or rust. It is also quite an affordable steel sheet type to be used, mainly because of its low manufacturing cost in comparison to other steel sheets, and also because it can be used directly, i.e. without any further preparation or treatment. Quite like the other galvanized steel products, galvanized steel sheets last for years and years to come, which makes it quite a beneficial sheet.
The galvanizing process of flat steel sheets is carried out by passing the rolled flat steels through the molten liquid zinc bath at high speeds with the Continuous Hot Dip method. With the galvanizing process, the contact of the base metal/sheet with the atmosphere is prevented and its resistance to corrosion is increased. The galvanizing process with the Continuous Hot Dip method is carried out in the following 6 main stages.
Cleaning
The surface cleaning process is carried out by passing through the alkaline cleaning unit, ensuring that the cold rolling oil, rolling emulsion and similar residues on the surface are chemically and mechanically purified from the surface.
Rinsing/Drying
By using demineralized water, alkali solution is removed from the sheet surface. The rinsing tank also has scraper rollers. With the help of scraper rollers, the removal of water from the sheet surface is ensured. In the drying section, hot air at a temperature of approximately 45-50˚C is blown on both surfaces of the sheet, and the sheet is dried at the exit of the rinsing tank.
Dipping (Zinc crucible)
Zinc coating thickness is adjusted by passing compressed air through it at high speeds and blowing compressed air on both surfaces with the help of air knives in order to coat both surfaces of the steel sheet with molten zinc at a temperature of approximately 450˚C.
Passivation
The passivation process is carried out by forming a thin film coating of the solution consisting of chromic acid, chromium salts and mineral acid on the sheet surface. The passivation process is applied to reduce the stains that may occur during storage and the sensitivity of the coating layer against white rust.
Annealing
The cold rolled flat steel sheet taken to the galvanizing line is heated to high temperatures-recrystallization temperatures to gain the desired mechanical properties.
Cooling
After the coating processes, the sheet is cooled to a temperature of 40-50˚C by blowing air and aqueous cooling.
Leveler
The surface smoothness of the sheet is ensured to the one that is deformed/deformed during the annealing process.
Which Is Better, Galvanized Sheet or Stainless Steel?
Different concepts
Galvanizing refers to coating a layer of metal zinc on the surface of the steel plate in order to prevent corrosion on the surface of the steel plate and prolong its service life.
This zinc coated thin steel plate is called galvanized plate.
Stainless steel refers to the steel that is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam and water and chemical corrosive media such as acid, alkali and salt, also known as stainless acid resistant steel.
Different processing technology
Galvanizing is mainly to coat a layer of dense zinc on the surface of steel.
Stainless steel is the addition of other metal elements inside the steel.
It is the internal structural change that makes the product not rusty.
Different application fields
Galvanized steel strip products are mainly used in construction, light industry, automobile, agriculture, animal husbandry, fishery, commerce and other industries.
Such as for building roof panels, roof grilles, etc;
Kitchen utensils, etc;
Storage and transportation of materials, packaging equipment, etc.
Stainless steel is mainly used in the construction field, which is one of the highest strength building metal materials.
It is also used in food processing, catering, brewing, chemical industry and other fields with high sanitary requirements.
Galvanized sheet refers to the steel plate with a layer of zinc on its surface.
Galvanizing is an economic and effective anti-corrosion method often used.
About half of the world’s zinc output is used in this process.
The surface of the aluminized zinc steel plate is smooth, flat and gorgeous, and the primary color is silver white.
The special coating structure makes it have excellent corrosion resistance.
The normal service life of the aluminized zinc plate can reach 25 years, and the heat resistance is very good.
It can be used in the high temperature environment of 315 ℃;
The coating has good adhesion to the paint film and good processing performance, which can be used for stamping, shearing, welding, etc;
The surface conductivity is very good.
The coating is composed of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon by weight.
The production process of aluminized zinc steel plate is similar to that of galvanized rigid plate and aluminized plate, which is a continuous melting plating process.
The aluminum zinc plated steel sheet with 55% aluminum zinc alloy coating has better corrosion resistance than the galvanized steel sheet with the same thickness when both sides are exposed to the same environment.
The 55% aluminum zinc alloy coated aluminum zinc steel plate not only has good corrosion resistance, but also has excellent adhesion and flexibility.
The difference between galvanized sheet and aluminized zinc sheet mainly lies in the difference of coating.
A layer of zinc material is evenly distributed on the surface of the galvanized sheet, which plays an anodic protection role for the base metal.
In other words, the alternative corrosion of zinc material protects the use of the base metal.
Only when the zinc is completely corroded can the base metal inside be damaged.

What Is the Density of Galvanized Sheet?
The thickest zinc coating is 80 grams per square meter, which means 160 grams on both sides.
The most common is 50 grams, which means 100 grams on both sides.
In this way, we can know a simple relationship.
The density of galvanized sheet is 7.85 tons/m³, that is to say, the weight of 1.0mm plate per square meter is 7.85kg, and the weight of 0.75mm plate per square meter is 5.8875kg.
Zinc plate density calculation method = iron plate weight + zinc coating weight
For example:
1 mm thick galvanized sheet, the weight of the sheet is 7.85 kg, and the weight of the galvanized layer is 2 × 0.05kg, the weight per square meter is 7.95kg, and other specifications are also calculated in the same way.
The weight of galvanized sheet is slightly heavier than that of ordinary iron sheet, and the increase of coating thickness is different.
The price should be different for different coating thicknesses.
Why You Need to Clean Galvanised Sheet
Galvanised sheet is a popular and versatile material that is used in a wide variety of applications. It’s often used as a protective coating for steel and other metals, adding an additional layer of protection from corrosion. It also offers protection from chemical spills, which can cause serious damage to unprotected metals.The galvanised coating also provides some measure of noise reduction when it’s applied to steel structures like roofs or decks. This is because the zinc oxide in the galvanised coating can absorb sound waves, which helps to reduce the echoes that occur when these structures are exposed to external noise sources like traffic or construction.
