Benefits of Using Adhesive Tapes

Versatility:
Adhesive tapes come in various types, each designed to serve specific purposes. Whether you need a tape for bonding, sealing, packaging, or insulation, there is a tape available to meet your requirements. From general-purpose tapes to specialized variants like double-sided tapes, masking tapes, duct tapes, and electrical tapes, the versatility of adhesive tapes makes them suitable for a wide range of applications.

Ease of Use:
One of the primary advantages of adhesive tapes is their simplicity and ease of use. Unlike traditional methods such as gluing or welding, tapes can be applied quickly and effortlessly. With no need for additional tools or equipment, anyone can use adhesive tapes to complete tasks efficiently. The user-friendly nature of tapes makes them accessible to both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

Bonding Strength:
Adhesive tapes provide excellent bonding strength, enabling them to hold materials together securely. Depending on the type of tape and its intended purpose, adhesive tapes can offer varying levels of adhesion. Some tapes are designed for permanent bonding, ensuring a long-lasting hold, while others allow for easy removal and repositioning. With the right adhesive tape, you can achieve strong and reliable bonds, eliminating the need for additional fasteners or adhesives.

Surface Compatibility:
Another advantage of adhesive tapes is their ability to adhere to various surfaces. Whether you are working with paper, plastic, metal, glass, fabric, or even uneven surfaces, there is an adhesive tape suitable for the task. Tapes are engineered to provide optimal adhesion on different materials, making them a versatile choice for numerous applications.

Residue-free Removal:
Certain adhesive tapes, such as masking tapes and painter's tapes, offer residue-free removal. This means that even after extended periods of use, the tapes can be peeled off easily without leaving behind any sticky residue or damaging the surface. This feature is particularly valuable when working on delicate or finished surfaces, as it eliminates the need for time-consuming clean-up processes.

Enhanced Safety:
Adhesive tapes can contribute to improving safety in various ways. For instance, electrical tapes are designed to insulate and protect electrical wires, reducing the risk of electrical shock or short circuits. Similarly, anti-slip tapes provide added traction on floors and stairs, minimizing the chances of slips and falls. Reflective tapes enhance visibility in low-light conditions, making them ideal for use on vehicles or safety gear. By choosing the right adhesive tape, you can enhance safety in both professional and personal environments.

Cost-effectiveness:
Compared to other bonding methods, adhesive tapes often offer a cost-effective solution. They eliminate the need for complex machinery or skilled labor, reducing overall production costs. Additionally, tapes are available in various sizes and quantities, allowing users to purchase the right amount for their specific needs. The longevity and reliability of adhesive tapes also contribute to cost savings by reducing the frequency of repairs or replacements.

The Different Types of Tape

Packing Tape
Packing tape is absolutely essential for any type of shipping business that uses corrugated cardboard boxes. This tape is typically made of a strong acrylic plastic or polypropylene material that is coated with a strong, effective adhesive. The adhesive is perfect for grabbing onto the surface of both new and recycled cardboard boxes and holds up well to both hot and cold weather.

Masking Tape
Masking tape, otherwise known as painter's tape, is a paper tape that does not leave any type of marks or residue on the surface on which it is placed. This type of tape is most commonly used in organizing, labelling, painting and crafting thanks to its temporary nature.

Duct Tape
Duct tape is easily one of the most popular types of tape in homes and businesses across the country. It is an extremely versatile and strong tape that is also waterproof. It is made up of three unique layers including a strong adhesive layer, a cloth fabric layer and the top plastic layer. Due to its moisture resistance, flexibility, strength and very sticky adhesive, duct tape is the perfect “repair” tool to keep in your toolbox, and around your home or business!

Master Roll 牛皮纸胶带

Gummed Tape

Double-Sided Tape
Double-sided tape is tape with two adhesive sides. This kind of tape is best used in applications such as bonding, mounting, and displaying. There are three common types of double-sided tape. The first type is for more permanent purposes such as crafting and scrapbooking. The second one is a removable double-sided tape which is great for hanging posters, pictures and other displays that will need to be moved or taken down at a later date. The third type is double-sided foam tape which is ideal for sealing, cushioning and displaying items, especially on irregular surfaces.

Kraft Tape
Kraft tape is most commonly water-activated and used for sealing and shipping cardboard boxes but, it can also be used for many different types of surfaces. This type of tape has excellent adhesion to corrugated cardboard and has effective application even when the box is dusty or dirty.kraft tape performs exceptionally well in both extreme cold and hot temperatures, making it the perfect tape for shipping in intense conditions. Kraft tape can also come reinforced with extra strong fibreglass yarns that add strength and protection.

Strapping Tape or Filament Tape
Strapping tape, also known as filament tape, is a long-lasting tape that has a very high tensile strength. It is most commonly used in applications such as carton sealing, bundling, securing items and more. There is a variety of strengths to choose from, ranging from light duty to industrial purposes.

Some instructions for using tape

Make sure the surface you are applying the tape to is completely dry and free of any debris before the tape is applied.

If any cleaning supplies were used recently on the surface please make sure no residue remains from the cleaning product (if so please use water to remove and then let it dry completely).

Unwind the tape from the roll (if the tape has a release liner remove it now). During this step be careful not to contaminate the adhesive by touching it at all with your fingers since it will transfer natural oils over to the adhesive side. Also try to immediately bond the tape to the surface without entrapping air between the tape and the surface it is being applied to.

Use some application pressure (it doesn't have to be that forceful) in order to achieve maximum bond strength. Make sure there is no gapping remaining between the tape and the surface it is being applied to which would allow water to come into contact with the adhesive-side of the tape over time. This would deaden the adhesive and shorten the life span of the tape.

If the tape has an acrylic adhesive the dwell time the tape needs to be in contact with both surfaces (before it reaches it maximum adhesion) is typically 1 to 24 hours. For best results during this dwell time try to provide some application pressure (e.g. clamps, tape over it, etc.); also if holding an item vertically against a surface try and support the weight if possible.

FAQ

Q: What do I need to do to prepare surfaces for tape application?

A: Pressure-sensitive adhesives used in most tape products form a chemical bond with the surface to which they are applied. This is what gives them the holding strength that makes them useful. However, this also means that any contaminants on the surface of the application can compromise that bond because the tape is sticking to those particles, and not the intended surface. For this reason, application sites should generally be dry and free of any substances like grease or oil. If you have a tape need for surfaces that may inherently contain these kinds of contaminants — such as medical tapes where moisture is a primary concern — talk to an experienced converting partner about your options.

Q: How long does gummed tape take to dry?

A: This usually takes a few minutes, but it can vary depending on the humidity and temperature of your environment. Avoid moving or handling the package until the adhesive is fully set.

Q: Is gummed paper tape recyclable?

A: Gummed paper tape is environmentally friendly, 100% recyclable and biodegradable. Made with paper and vegetable starch, it can be supplied in both brown and white with pre-printed options available for those in need of caution and security messaging.

Q: How long does tape stickiness last?

A: It is not the same for all adhesive tapes, but differs from product to product: it generally ranges between six months and two years from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored correctly.

Q: Does tape lose stickiness in heat?

A: Hot surfaces have the opposite effect, and they will make the adhesive softer. This allows the tape to slip from its original positioning and lose the strength of its bond.

Q: How do you clean sticky tape?

A: Simply soak a microfiber rag in warm, soapy water (dish soap will work just fine). Gently rub the sticky area until the residue begins to loosen. Rinse the area with clean water, and dry thoroughly to prevent any water damage.

Q: Does tape weaken over time?

A: With time, the tape will lose its adhesiveness, leading to a weak bond, and finally, total failure.
